Layout & formatting changes lost after clicking BB "Done" & "publish changes"

I have been using BB theme and plugin for a few months with no problems and absolutely love it.
WP 4.2.2 / BB Theme 1.3.1 / BB Plugin 1.6.0.2
This is a dev site not live.

However recently I have found strange behaviour when attempting to modify e.g. background colour of a row, in that the effect is shown correctly while in BB mode but when I click “Done” and “Publish changes” all the layout collapses left. Then if go back into BB mode the layout and formatting returns to how it should be!!
If you view the two URLs below:
URL “staging” http://two_ips.dev.onpressidium.com/join-us/
URL “would be live” http://two_ips.onpressidium.com/join-us/

The “staging” version is in the broken layout state and the “live” version looks correct but if you now engage BB mode this shows the layout broken! It seems something has got out of step?

Another odd thing about the Join Us page is that the row including the word Join Us has the background colour set to grey (as other pages) but always shows white/no colour despite having the grey set in the parameters.

I can supply log in details for access.

Also FYI - I have also got the same site hosted on Pantheon and the same effect is occuring.

Is it anything to do with wp-cfm plugin which I had been using when on the Pantheon platform?

Appreciate your thoughts.
Kind regards
Mike

Hey Mike,

Thanks for getting in touch! I was playing around the staging site and I’m getting a JS error specifically on the walogin.js script. Do you think you could try disabling all the plugins and remove the code you have under Appearance > Customize > Code > Header and see if that fixes it? Also, I can’t check if there is anything hard coded to the theme you are using so I think it’s best if we try using another theme, preferably the default twentyX theme and check if the problem is still there. Let me know how it goes.

Ben

Thanks for the suggestions. I restored a previous version, disabled or deleted all plugins except BB plugin and wp-cfm and cleared the bit of JS in the Head that referred to the Wild Apricot log in. You mentioned the theme as a potential issue but all along I have been using the BB theme so that should not be an issue?

So on further testing using the <http://two_ips.onpressidium.com> site I am still getting unpredictable results in the “round trip” i.e.

  • enable BB mode on a page
  • make changes (text content or parameters e.g. bg colour, padding etc)
  • click Done and Publish changes

Sometimes the layout gets broken. Sometimes later it may look correct in site view but broken in BB mode! I have disabled caches in Safari browser and have tried purging caches in wp-admin area. I could be wrong but this seems to fix things sometimes.

At the moment the Join Us page is broken (the accordians should be one in each of two columns).

Whatever is going wrong it seems to be something communication getting out of step in the round trip of editing in BB mode and publishing the changes.

BTW when I check the plugins in admin there are only 2 “active” now but there is one called “advanced-cache” in a category called “Drop-ins”. Is that normal? Maybe it is a standard Pressidium addition I did not add it.

Hey Mike,

You could be having the same problem as René, I think he’s on Pressidium as well.

Would you be able to give us FTP access so we can check further?

Hey Mike,

SSL had nothing to do with the issue but the default file permissions did. Also, you forgot the password.

Hey Mike,

It really is just a file permissions issue just like on that thread I referred you to. For some reason, the files have their permissions set in a way that BB can’t communicate with. I’d suggest talking to your host about this. You can check the screenshot below for more information.

Thanks Ben. Pressidium are looking into it.

Hey Mike,

René got back to us saying the site was fixed after he talked to Pressidium. This is what he was told.
We found an issue with the filesystem cluster your site is hosted on, it seems incorrect permissions were set on all new files, and 0644 was not being set. We’ve now resolved it, so you should be OK, you don’t need to run fix-file-permissions and clear-cache when creating beaver builder pages – please check it and tell us if you are ok!

Maybe you could tell them that hoping it would help expedite the process.

Hi Ben

That’s great - sounds as if it is a similar situation. I have passed on the info to Pressidium. Fingers crossed!

Many thanks for passing this on.
Mike
