Layout lost after migration

Hi there,

We have issues with migration. After being helped the last time we have not yet had another migration untill last week.

After the migration our page layouts were lost and some pages were blank even if BB backend was filled. Strange enough the homepage was fine.

So we have tried WP Migrate DB and several other migration plugins. Cleared cache and tried other solutions. Still no luck. We have placed the layouts from scratch to finish the project in time but that’s no real solution.

We are trying to find out what we are doing wrong and why it won’t work but can’t figure it out… hope you can help.

Hey Wouter,

We’ve a KB article documenting how to migrate sites when using BB. The trick here is using the serialized search and replace script. You can check the article on the link below.

Hope this helps and let us know if we can assist further!

Hi Vicki,

You should be able to export the templates you have created using the WordPress Import/Export tools. You can find this by going to your WordPress Admin Dashboard > Tools > Export. From there select Templates and you should download a .xml file.

Then go to your new site and navigate to WordPress Admin Dashboard > Tools > Import. Upload the .xml file by following the instructions and when imported, your templates should be available to use on your new site.

Thanks,
Danny

Hey Vicky,

Are you referring to the thread below when you said you wrote the other day? I did reply to that thread. Chances are, you were not subscribed to it so you weren’t being sent a notice regarding the reply.

hi, I am having a similar experience. I used serialized script in the above link to change all the urls in the database but when I migrate the site from one host to another it loses all of the custom settings that I made, including the page layouts that I had which were not templates. Why didn’t it keep the settings in the DB?

thanks

We now use Duplicator (free) to export websites. Works fine with BB.

Hey Eric,

Do you mind listing down the steps you took when you migrated the site?

Wouter,

Thanks for taking the time to inform us! We really appreciate it.

hi Ben,
I first zipped a copy of my wordpress install with all the added files in the wp-content folder. I’m using the child theme for BB and the BB plugin. I downloaded a backup of my DB from phpmyadmin. Then I installed the script that you suggested to do a serialized change of all the URLs. I then downloaded the new DB. Next I went to the new host and created a DB, uploaded the zip file and unpacked it. I then added the new DB info. Then I imported the DB with all my settings to the new DB. All the files were there and even the template that I created.

Listed below are the major issues that I experienced:
• The custom section did not keep any of my settings.
• The pages that I created with Page Builder were not there, except the ones that were associated with the one template I made for the article sections. (it showed some data when I turned on PB, but it was not all the sections).
• The post pages had issues with the articles making them part of PB, probably because I had the PB active for posts to do some customization on one or two of the post pages.

I had to go back to the old install and save templates of the custom pages I created using PB and export them and then override the old pages with the templates. That restored the pages, but then I had to go back and forth from the old instal to the new and update the custom settings for the header, backgrounds, content, and footer.

Everything is ok now after I did all that. I just thought it should be easier than that. What is Duplicator and how do I find it?

Thanks for your insight.
eric

Hi Eric,

I believe the plugin @Wouter is referring to is this - Duplicator – WordPress Migration & Backup Plugin – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org

The custom section did not keep any of my settings.

Are you referring to the WP Customizer or a custom module?

The pages that I created with Page Builder were not there, except the ones that were associated with the one template I made for the article sections. (it showed some data when I turned on PB, but it was not all the sections).

Were these pages not even in the WordPress Admin Dashboard > Pages ?

The post pages had issues with the articles making them part of PB, probably because I had the PB active for posts to do some customization on one or two of the post pages.

What do you mean exactly? Is it possible you can provide a screenshot?

Thanks,
Danny

hi Guys, thanks so much for helping me to figure this out. I am planning a bunch more migrations in he future and hope to be able to get this understood.

Danny, I’m referring to the WP customizer.

The pages remained in the dashboard, but were not showing the content section when I opened the frontend page. As I explained before, when I activated BB on the frontend, it would show part of the data that I had in the page which I designed with page builder.

The posts were a little different, they looked ok, but it was like the post info that I entered in the normal post editor transferred to a Page builder section and I could not see it in the backend post field. Maybe this is because I had pagebuilder active for posts?

I don’t have any examples because my client needed the site up right away. I had to manually fix all the stuff. I’ll check out the plugin.

thanks!

Hi Eric,

It is difficult to diagnose the issue when we can’t see the issue first hand. Therefore, I hope this doesn’t happen again for you, but if it does can you post on our forums right away, please?

So we can take a closer look.

Thanks,
Danny
