Screen goes blank when opening a text box, all edits lost

I have been using Beaver Builder on several sites over the last few weeks without issue, except for one site.

I revamped a site with a Genesis child theme and the client is using Beaver builder to update her content before going live. She is using Chrome (on Windows) and claims that she can edit for a bit and “Then all of a sudden, I open up a text box to edit text and it’s blank just like before and won’t allow me to enter anything. When I exit out of it, the whole page is empty.” And then she loses all her changes.

I cannot reproduce this no matter what I try. I even had her play with the demo to see if it happens to her with that (trying to rule out her Browser) and she couldn’t reproduce it there. She then went back to her site and within 15 minutes she got the blank screen again when clicking on a text box.

She is currently on pro version 1.5.4 and I see there is an update available. I haven’t updated it yet in hopes of reproducing the issue so we could have a resolution. All other plugins and WP are updated.

I have just replied to her asking if she has any chrome extensions installed… I have no idea what to check next. It has never happened to me on her site and I’ve spent at least 3-4 hours editing content with the Beaver Builder over the last few weeks.

I haven’t seen anyone reporting an issue like this. Is there a way to debug or troubleshoot this for her? She’s really frustrated, especially since I talked her into this “awesome page builder” and now she says it’s “worthless” because she keeps losing her content when she edits. Please help!

Here is the page that she keeps trying to edit: http://jumpjive.tfddev.com/finders-market/

OK - I ran the the debugger and I see that I’m getting a specific error message on the page she keeps trying to edit:

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$node in /home/tfddev/public_html/jumpjive/wp-content/plugins/bb-plugin/classes/class-fl-builder-model.php on line 2231

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$type in /home/tfddev/public_html/jumpjive/wp-content/plugins/bb-plugin/classes/class-fl-builder-model.php on line 727

Is the page corrupted or something? How do I get rid of the error?

I updated to the latest version but the error persists.

Nevermind - thought I fixed it, but the error is still there.

Hi Gretchen,

Sorry to hear about those problems. Does this issue occur only on that specific page? Maybe have your client trash that page and create a new one and see if the same problem occurs. You could also have the client deactivate all the other plugins except BB and see if the same issue occurs. Given that you can’t recreate the problem on your end, it might have something to do with the client’s browser so trying it with another browser would rule that out.

Hope this helps.

Ben

Thanks, Ben. Here’s what I did just for documentation purposes…

  1. I duplicated the page and the error persisted.
  2. Created a new page and copied over the content from the text boxes on the corrupt page and then added back in the image widgets.
  3. Published the new page - no error message.

So I guess the page was just corrupted. I have a backup if you want a copy to investigate.

For the record, with debugging turned on, this message appeared above the first row: Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$parent in /home/tfddev/public_html/jumpjive/wp-content/plugins/bb-plugin/classes/class-fl-builder-model.php on line 695

Hello Gretchen,

I tried playing around the site on my local setup here but I can’t seem to recreate the problem. Seeing as the contents work fine on the new page, it must have been really just a page that got corrupted probably on the database side. Did you manage to check as well if the template used was just the default one? I can see 3 other templates so it’s quite possible that was the case. Anyway, glad to hear you got it working! If anything else arises, do let us know and we’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Ben

I don’t think she used any templates. I made those when I was playing around. I’ll let you know if she has any further trouble. Thanks.

Anytime, Gretchen! I’ll be marking this as resolved now then.
